I never knew what a profound effect hair loss has on one’s
self identity until it happened to me.
Inspired By You, Inc. started as a personal journey for
me. My name is Angela Lemke and at 33 years of age I was
diagnosed with breast cancer, luckily with advanced treatment
options and early detection the survival rate of this disease
is on the rise every year, and I am fortunate enough to be a survivor.
Over the last year I have struggled through the trials and
tribulations of going from a very healthy woman, very active
in her family and career to a woman overwhelmed with surgeries,
chemotherapy, radiation. I was sick, physically, mentally
and emotionally. From the moment I was diagnosed I started
to change, I can’t explain to you the wide range of
emotions that I went through, everything from anger, disappointment
to shame.
Yes, shame and embarrassment of no longer fitting in, looking
different than what society expects...
How strange that might seem, to hear that, but so much
of our identity as women is associated with how we look,
take that away and you can lose your self identity and along
with it your self esteem.
Once I started my chemotherapy treatment it was only a
matter of weeks before my hair started falling out in clumps,
I started to research hair loss alternatives, and was disappointed
in the choices I had. The more I searched the more I realized
that there was a real need for something in between just
wearing a head scarf, and still looking bald or purchasing
an expensive, itchy wig.
So I started drawing up the plans for my ponytail hat,
during a visit from my sister in law we actually created
our first Inspired By You™ Ponytail
Hat. I
was so excited from the minute I put it on I could feel
my confidence coming back, I felt more like my old self
again, and society accepted me, shedding away the harsh
memories of the stares I received and the feelings of shame
about the way I looked.
It was so comfortable and stylish, I wore my ponytail hat
everywhere I went, to the doctor, the grocery store, to
my son’s school functions, and
everywhere I go people comment that they didn’t even realize I was in
the middle of cancer treatment and had lost my hair.
The more confident I grew the more I came to realize that
this experience was my life’s inspiration, and I wanted to help women, teens and children
change the way the feel about themselves while going through this traumatic
experience.
Inspired By You, Inc. was created and is dedicated to all

Our Signature Hat was originally created as a fun way for
family and friends to support loved ones effected by cancer,
while raising money for cancer research and cancer support
programs, but so many people have told us that they love
her, she is now available with a ponytail as well. All hats
